With only two days left to enter the DWR Nordic Design Tour Sweepstakes, don’t miss your chance to win a trip to Copenhagen Design Week (September 1–6) and spend five nights at the stylish Avenue Hotel, located in historic Fredricksberg, a lush, green town located within Copenhagen. For the ultimate design trip experience, we asked our Sweepstakes partners at Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Collection for the scoop on how to experience Copenhagen as only the boutique hotel experts (and design-o-philes) could.

DWR: What makes Copenhagen special?

Mr & Mrs Smith: Copenhagen is a compact Scandinavian-style city of spires, with squares and canals that make fine dining, boutique shopping and hip nightlife an irresistibly effortless experience.

DWR: Why is the Avenue Hotel such a design destination?

Mr & Mrs Smith: The Avenue Hotel, built in 1898 by Emil Blichfeldt, designer of the entrance to the Tivoli Gardens, has been radically reinvented as a showcase of Danish design. You’ll find refreshing pops of color courtesy of Missoni fabrics throughout, photographs from Denmark’s renowned photographers and an in-hotel shop stocked with BestLite lamps, Missoni linens and a curated selection of books and accessories chosen especially for design-savvy guests. If you plan to borrow one of the hotel’s bikes, be sure to pack your highest heels – it’s something of a trend in these parts.

DWR: Do you have any favorite rooms at the Avenue Hotel?

Mr & Mrs Smith: We love Room 417, on the top floor because there are no neighboring rooms. You can enjoy the rooftop views in uninterruptible privacy. Room 414 has a four-poster canopy bed and an alcove lined with black and white Missoni cushions that’s perfect for wallowing away an afternoon with a good book.
