Auction watch.

VintageRadio
There are two interesting auctions to keep an eye on this week. One is the Michael and Diane Schoeman Collection of Vintage Radios on Tuesday, December 14 at Bonhams. The other is Design Masters on Wednesday, December 15 at Phillips de Pury. The Bonhams auction will include the radio shown above. It is Lot No. 3052, described as a Garod 126 Circle Grille from 1940, estimate: $3,000—5,000. Details magazine knows what guys want.

Midas
“We understand that watching someone you love unwrap an ugly sweater is just as painful as doing your holiday shopping on Christmas Eve,” begins the Gift Guide at Details.com. Included in their list of the season’s best gifts are the Midas Glasses and Carafe, which they call “the quickest way to class up a bedroom.” Drink in the Midas (and enjoy free shipping for a limited time).

Dallas Morning News reviews Etch Candleholder.

Etch
The Dallas News is aglow over the Etch Candleholder by Tom Dixon, calling it “a modern twist to lighting up a room.” We couldn’t agree more. Check out the Etch Candleholder and Etch Pendant and enjoy free standard shipping.

More coveted than a corner office.

TimeLifeChairArchival2
A chair to lose your head (or hat) over, this archival image of the Eames® Executive Chair appeared in a Herman Miller catalog in 1961. Also known as the Time-Life Chair (and a familiar sight on the television series Mad Men) this iconic piece was originally created for the executive floors of New York City’s Time-Life Building in 1960. Just imagine the stories this chair could tell. The Time-Life Chair is included in the Herman Miller Sale at Design Within Reach.

Beauty moment of the day.

View_from_the_Dunes_Mondrian_1909
In researching the work of Piet Mondrian, I was surprised to discover this painting, so different than the abstract geometric work for which he is known. Painted in 1909, “View from the Dunes with Beach and Piers, Domburg” is included in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. As an antidote to the hectic pace of the holidays, I offer you Mondrian’s peaceful beach. Just you, your thoughts, and the sunset. Enjoy.

Wild horses.

NYT HiHo
Today’s New York Times featured their annual Holiday Gift Guide, which included the Hi Ho Rocking Horse from DWR. This horse has had quite a ride. We discovered it in Milan during last April’s furniture fair, Salone Internazional del Mobile. It became part of our gift assortment in November, and today it’s on the cover of the Home section in the NYT. Giddyap.
