One of our 2010 catalogs gave you a sneak peek at some beautiful photographs taken at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, and we wanted to share more of them with you. The subjects of the photos are chairs and stools designed by Jesús Gasca, the founder of STUA (Solo Tengo Un Amor: I have only one love), which is a furniture company based in Spain. Gasca is a very important part of the DWR family and we are the only place where you can find his work in the U.S.
Shown above is the STUA team in front of the Museum, from left to right: Raul Bartolome (video camera), Javier Guerrero (video director), Jon Gasca (STUA) and Josu Martin (photographer). They had just one day to take the photos and make the video. Adding to the challenge, the center rotunda had been covered to prevent any natural light from entering the space during Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance, a special exhibition at the museum.

The industrial designer who created the Art Deco interiors for Radio City Music Hall and packaging for Crest Toothpaste, was also a furniture designer. Deskey designed this chair (circa 1940), which you can see at the Winter Antiques Show in NYC. (Is it me, or does something about this remind you of a Chanel suit?)

It’s been more than six years since we challenged Jeffrey Bernett to create a recliner that didn’t look like a recliner, and the Flight Chair continues to be a favorite with DWR customers. With none of the bulkiness of a traditional recliner, the Flight looks like a streamlined club chair and is available in fabric or leather upholstery. It’s also included in our Upholstery and Rug Sale, through Tuesday, February 1.

With the belief that aesthetics should be a consideration in every aspect of daily life, Anni Albers joined the Bauhaus Weaving Workshop as a student in 1922. Though her initial passion lay in painting, women were restricted at that time to textiles, which she took to enthusiastically. Experimenting with new materials for weaving, she elevated textile design to a true art form. See all rugs by Anni Albers.

After launching his Etch Pendant last year, designer Tom Dixon deserved to celebrate with champagne. So it is befitting that his newest creation, the Comet Lamp, was designed for Veuve Clicquot. The Comet will make its debut during Art Stage Singapore. We raise our glass to you Tom!

This modern "eye chart" is the work of designer Joel Pirela. It's just one of the cool posters available for purchase on his website. Can you name all the chairs? How about naming them from 10 feet away?
