A must-have for every furniture-lover's library is "Fine Points of American Furniture: Good, Better, Best" by Albert Sack. This author, antique dealer, lecturer and World War II veteran passed away on May 29 at the age of 96. Together with his brothers and son, Sack ran Israel Sack, Inc., which the Newtown Bee called "one of the most prestigious American furniture galleries in the world."

With many folks heading to airports for the holiday weekend, I thought we'd look at a classic: the old Copenhagen Airport Terminal. Designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1939, this terminal was the main hub of the airport until 1960. In 1999, this 4000-square-foot building was relocated to the western side of the airport to make room for a new terminal and hotel. Photos by Bonnie Edelman.
Congratulations to Steven Heller on receiving the "Design Mind" honor in the 2011 Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Awards. Heller is the author, co-author or editor of more than 100 books on design and pop culture. “For me little is more gratifying than writing about, teaching, and making design,” said Heller. Also being honored is the company Knoll, for their "Corporate and Institutional Achievement". Photo by Baden Copeland.

With only two days left to enter the DWR Nordic Design Tour Sweepstakes, don’t miss your chance to win a trip to Copenhagen Design Week (September 1–6) and spend five nights at the stylish Avenue Hotel, located in historic Fredricksberg, a lush, green town located within Copenhagen. For the ultimate design trip experience, we asked our Sweepstakes partners at Mr & Mrs Smith Hotel Collection for the scoop on how to experience Copenhagen as only the boutique hotel experts (and design-o-philes) could.
DWR has just returned from HD Expo in Las Vegas. This is the must-see trade show for the hospitality design community, and this year's event brought in more than 7,000 attendees and 900 exhibitors. The response to our booth was fantastic, as leading designers for hotels and restaurants sought us out for the best in modern design. Our colorful display included Tolix Marais Chairs and Stools; Eames Molded Plastic Seating; BassamFellows Tractor Stools; Wishbone Chairs and more. Next stop for our contract sales team: NeoCon in Chicago. MORE PHOTOS...
In Wednesday's "Shopping for the 1960s" feature in the NY Times, Jaguar designer Wayne Burgess, in town to unveil the 2012 Jaguar XF at the New York International Auto Show, shopped Manhanttan for inspirational 1960s design –– among his picks was the Hans Wegner Shell Chair (1963) available at DWR. We think it would fit into his growing collection of vintage furnishings quite nicely.
Here's what happens when you put DWR customers and employees (plus one very pink Swan Sofa) in front of a camera. These photos were taken during the ICFF party at our W. 14th Street Studio in NYC.
A big thanks to David Smith over at Antiques and The Arts Weekly for sharing this great slideshow of vintage motorcycles. These cool bikes were found at Pennsylvania's annual Perkiomen National, commonly known as "Oley," which attracts buyers and sellers from all over the world. This multi-day event always falls on the last weekend in April; there is no website for it, and advertising is mostly word-of-mouth.
Congratulations to the winner of Apartment Therapy's Smallest Coolest Home Contest. Working with just 460 square feet, her Brooklyn apartment is a perfect example of how comfortable small-space living can be. You may also notice that she has an eye for great classic pieces -- many of which can be found in the DWR assortment.
Check out these photos of our ICFF party to celebrate The Language of Nordic Design. The party was held at our W. 14th Street Studio in NYC. We also had a photo-booth and those photos will be posted soon. Stay tuned!
Here are just a few of the many beautiful and interesting things we saw during ICFF. These photos were taken at the Javits Center as well as at many of the "off campus" shows throughout the city.
Our partners at Herman Miller have outdone themselves this year. Their booth is cool, sleek and sophisticated. Check out the new black and white frames. There's a great sorry to tell you about their involvement with the Irwin Miller house designed by Saarinen -- details to follow in the coming weeks.
Stop by our W 14th Street Studio to explore the language of Nordic design. We've set up a special exhibition of classic furniture by Panton, Moller, Jacobsen, Wegner, Saarinen and other Nordic giants. Check it out and take a break from the rain in NYC.
Through May 17, check out the new Verner Panton furniture and rugs that we'll be adding to our assortment in August. They're available for pre-order now and you can test-drive them at our W 14th St. Studio in NYC through Tuesday. These items are back in production and available only at DWR. Don't miss these Panton classics!
We stumbled into a vintage furniture store and found this sofa and table. Can you guess the designers? Hint: we have other iconic works by them in our assortment.
