Milan: Day Four – replacing the light “bulb” with a bubble.

“A bubble is brief, and bursts at your touch. But while it lasts, it catches the light and reflects the room like a multi-colored temporary structure.” That’s how Gil Molho of Front Design explains the Surface Tension Lamp.

Seeing the bubble as the most ephemeral of lampshades, the designers have created a lamp that changes constantly. It uses an LED light source that will last for 50,000 hours, and by the time that bulb burns out, this lamp will have had 3 million different “shades.” The Surface Tension Lamp was presented by Holland-based booo studio at Salone del Mobile.
