Two design fellowships are again being offered this summer by Be Original Americas, the organization that works to promote the economic, ethical and environmental value of authentic design. To be eligible, students must have completed two or three years of post-secondardy study in the U.S. in subjects related to design, or have a demonstrated interest in a career in the design industry. Winners must be 18 years old.
In the Summer Design Fellowship, the two students get a chance to study the development of authentic products from research and design to manufacture and distribution, traveling to New York City and elsewhere across the country for first-hand encounters with companies that are Be Original members and in the business of making and selling original, authored products. Besides DWR, participating companies include Herman Miller, Chilewich, Emeco and many more.
Travel and lodging will be paid by Be Original, and fellows each receive a $3,500 grant upon completion of the fellowship. The program runs for seven weeks, from June 12 to August 1, and fellows will be expected to make a presentation to the Be Original board afterward.
